Welcome to Blunder Abroad

Most of the folks who are reading this already know us but for anyone who doesn’t. We’re Julie and Casey. We recently retired and now slow-traveling the world. In late 2025, we made a big decision. We decided to sell our house, most of our possessions, relocate to Chicago (where Casey is originally from), retire, sell our cars, and leave the country to slow-travel the world. This had been a dream of ours for decades, but it wasn’t ever something we really thought we would actually do.

We had always loved travel and when we had our day jobs, we spent a lot of time traveling across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, so we’ve gotten pretty good at planning trips… and equally good at watching those plans go sideways.

The reality is that no matter how experienced you are, travel has a way of keeping you humble — missed connections, questionable rentals, technology that won’t cooperate, and the occasional “how did we end up here?” moment.

This blog will show a lot of what we are doing day to day, but it will also capture the blunders and problems we encounter along the way.

The main goal of this blog is to keep friends and family up to date on where we are and what we’re up to, but anyone curious is welcome to follow along. We’re not trying to be professional travel bloggers, and we won’t be posting on a strict schedule, but we’ll share updates as we go, at our own pace.
